For Pete's Sake!

The USC Trojan players should all thank their coach on the way back to LA from Pullman, Washington. USC eeked out a narrow victory over the WSU Cougars, thanks in part to Pete Carroll sweet-talking the refs, or whatever he was doing. How else can you explain an official rescinding a holding call (on a play where holding was a good call) after Carroll was talking to him? The official threw the flag. He must have seen holding. If he didn't see holding, he shouldn't have thrown the flag signifying that a penalty occurred. And, if he saw holding, Pete Carroll chirping at him shouldn't have made him change his mind. The only thing I can think of is that Carroll made mention of all the money that the Pac-10 will lose if the they don't get two teams in BCS games (Oregon is a definite possibility as the 2nd, having already received help from the Pac-10 officials). It's time for the NCAA to take over officiating for all D-1, rather than having conference-specific officials. D-1 college football is a big-money business and the NCAA needs to regulate it as such.
